ESL
Online: |
There are many quality websites online for use in learning
English as a Second Language. The following are recommendations
for Teachers and Students to use in their ESL studies. |
|
|
Good
luck in your learning adventure! |
|
|
Difficult
Areas |
| The
English language has many words that sound alike but are written
differently. These words are called HOMONYMS. |
Most
often, homonyms have entirely different meanings. At time,
the words can be spelled differently and mean close to the
same thing. |
Other
times, there is a more common usage for one spelling, yet
a more obscure usage for another with the same pronunciation. |
The
best way to conquer homonyms is by usage in practice and in
writing. So write these words a few times in a sentence that
gives you a clear insight into the word's meaning. That will
help a lot! |
There
are many websites on the Internet that provide listings of
homonyms. Because of regional differences in pronunciation,
sometimes the words listed may not sound alike in various
English-speaking countries. |
|
|
This
is sound advice for anyone wishing to learn English. I want
to share an idea that I have used to really learn another
language. One of my colleagues suggested getting an electronic
dictionary. I spent some time browsing the Internet looking
for a good one. I had chosen the Language Teacher by ECTACO. |
I
was really pleased with the way I could look up a word and
hear it pronounced! They make dictionaries in more than 20
languages and in various price categories. I recommend their
dictionaries to anyone who enjoys traveling. They also make
great gifts! |
You
can familiarize yourself with these award-winning dictionaries
at ECTACO.
Make your trip easier - you have no idea how much help you
can get from a tiny handheld device. I guarantee you'll be
as amazed as I was. |
